Working With WSS: Audiobook Editing, Mastering, & Producing

Thanks so much for considering Whole Story Studio for your next audiobook project. We adore working with everyone from newbie narrators doing their first book, to indie narrators working with small independent presses, to DIY authors giving voice to their own words. Long story short (see what I did there?), our job is to make you sound good and to provide you with a no-stress, done-for-you, personalized, crafted audiobook editing experience. You’ll be sent a proposal to review the project specs and confirm your personal CRX pack preferences. We are now literally and figuratively on the same page for our project expectations.

Step 4 Project Prep

You upload your RAW audio, manuscript, pronunciation guides, EQ preferences, and a picture of your pet* to our shared Dropbox folder.

Step 5 Editing & Proofing

We work our magic! You’ll get your CRX pack on the agreed-upon date.

Step 6 Voice Matches & Pickups

You record your voice matches and upload the pickups to our shared folder before the date scheduled for mastering.

We work our magic (again!) Your mastered files will be uploaded by the agreed-upon date to be shared with your RH.

    When you work with WSS to produce your audiobook, you’ll get access to some of the most fantastic voice talent this industry has to offer. We’ll work together to find a voice actor that will bring your work to life, adding that crucial human element to your story.

  • Production

    It’s time to get to work. WSS will coordinate and schedule all the details. From getting the raw audio to producing your mastered files, WSS will take care of you and make sure you’re a part of the entire process.

  • Distribution

    WSS will work with your preferred distribution platform to get your audiobook out into the world.

  • Celebrate & Plan for your next Audiobook

The Whole Edit

From RAW files to a retail-ready audiobook. Proofing for misreads, mispronunciations, pacing, accurate character voicing; Editing of noises, glitches, sibilance, plosives; Personalized CRX pack; Customized mastering chain specific to your voice and environment; QC pickups (if doing a separate QC round).

Depending on a narrator’s error rate, I’ll often use Pozotron to aid in the initial proofing round and during QC-only projects. The use of this program has cut down on (and oftentimes, completely eliminated) QC pickups, saving all of us time (and money) in the long run. When used in collaboration with a real human editor (such as myself), Pozotron can help us produce a nearly flawless recording. If you are a narrator who already uses Pozotron before sending me your RAW audio, please let me know.
